QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
You must have one year of specialized experience at a level close to the work of this job that has given you the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities required to successfully perform. Typically we would find this experience in work within this field or a field that is closely related.
Specialized Education:
SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION:Education may be substituted for experience in accordance with the Qualification Standards Handbook, GS-645 series.Successful completion of two years of study of which the second year of the program included successful completion of a training course of approximately a year?s duration in an accredited certified laboratory assistant school; OR one year of study that included six semester hours in chemistry or the biological sciences plus successful completion of a one year training course as a medical or clinical laboratory assistant; OR two years of study that included at least 12 semester hours of chemistry and/or biological science course work that is directly related to this position
You must be a U.S. citizen to qualify for this position.
You must submit to a drug test and receive a negative drug test before you can be appointed into this position.
Applicants for this position must pass a pre-employment medical examination.

MAJOR DUTIES:

Incumbent performs phlebotomy duties, prepares blood and urine samples for analysis, enters and retrieves patient information via computer. Entry and retrieval of patient information data by by computer.Insures proper identification of patients by name and arm band prior to drawing blood specimens, labels blood collection tubes.Maintains clean work are and phlebotomy trays.Delivers or mails patient final test results and other Laboratory reports to wards and other VA institutions.
