HHS/NIH-2008-0678 Biologist - NCI - DE QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Basic Requirements:(A) Successful completion of a full four (4) year degree in the biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position OR (B) Combination of education and experience-- Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the basic requirements identified above, to qualify at the GS-9 level requires two (2) years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree OR one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least a GS-7.To qualify at the GS-11 level requires three (3) years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree OR one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least a GS-9.To qualify at the GS-12 requires one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least a GS-11. Specialized experience (paid or unpaid) is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledges, skills, and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position and is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Examples of meeting the one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level may involve working in an advanced training position assisting one or more senior investigators by performing routine laboratory experiments; applying standard methods and procedures; and documenting and maintaining detailed records of all experiments performed. Examples of meeting the one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 level may involve providing laboratory assistance to one or more senior investigators; recommending methods and assisting the scientist in designing the experiment; performing experiments in accordance with approved methods and procedures; and assembling data in both tabular (i.e., tables, graphs, charts) and narrative form noting any inconsistencies or areas where the data appear inconclusive. Examples of meeting the one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 may involve serving as an independent laboratory assistant to one or more senior investigators; recommending methods and developing and/or modifying methods and procedures for conducting projects; and conducting complete analyses of data, applying standard statistical methods; and preparing data in both tabular (i.e., tables, graphs, charts) and narrative form, and noting any inconsistencies where the data appear inconclusive. This position has an education requirement. You must submit a copy of your transcripts (or a list of your courses including titles, credit hours completed and grades) to document that you have met the education requirement.
