*General experience is progressively responsible clerical, office or other work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge, skills and abilities needed to perform the duties a Program Support Assistant (Office Automation).

To qualify at the GS-5 level: You must have one full year1 specialized experience** equivalent to at least the GS-4 level ~OR~ To qualify based on education you must have successfully completed four (4) years above high school.This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college, or university (TRANSCRIPT OR COURSE LISTING REQUIRED)2. ~OR~ Equivalent combinations3 of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements (TRANSCRIPT OR COURSE LISTING REQUIRED)2.

**Specialized experience must be close to the work of this job and has given you the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of a Program Support Assistant (Office Automation).Typically we would find this experience in work within this field or a field that is closely related to clerical and assistance work in a medical setting or hospital scheduling appointments, patient intake, and providing administrative support to health care professionals.
1A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week.Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
2A transcript or course listing must be submitted if you are basing all or part of your qualifications on education.See Step 3 under "How to Apply" for a description of a course listing.Applications submitted without this information will not be considered.
3To calculate the combination of education and experience, determine the amount of experience you have as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level.Then determine the amount of education you have as a percentage of the education required for the grade level.Only education in excess of the amount required for the next lower grade level is qualifying.Add the two percentages; the total percentage must equal at least 100% to qualify for the grade level.
Example:the position to be filled is an Editorial Assistant, GS-5.The applicant has 9 months of specialized experience and 75 semester hours of college (15 semester hours beyond the second year and the equivalent of 3 months of specialized experience.The applicant meets 75 percent of the required experience and 25 percent of the required education.The applicant meets 100% of the requirement for one year of specialized experience and is qualified for the position.

This position involves a multi-grade career ladder.The major duties listed below represent the full performance level of GS-5.At the GS-4 grade level, the incumbent performs assignments of a more limited scope and with less independence.The incumbent will progressively acquire the background necessary to perform at the full performance level of GS-5. Promotion is at the discretion of the supervisor and is contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of higher level work, and availability of funds.
This position is located in the Prosthetics and Sensory Aids Section of the Extended Care and Rehabilitation Service Care Line in the Lebanon VA Medical Center.
Major duties and responsibilities include:Assisting the veteran patient in obtaining prosthetic and sensory aids, durable medical equipment, home oxygen, and other medically required items or services;Providing clerical and administrative support including typing, receiving and directing incoming mail, record keeping, appointment scheduling, receiving and directing telephone calls, maintaining up-to-date vendor files, and maintaining and tracking of inventory;Receiving prosthetic requests and prescriptions for items, services and durable medical equipment and refers to appropriate staff for processing;Determining legal eligibility and medical entitlement for prosthetic items and services;Authorizing and preparing complex purchase orders under the direct supervision of the Prosthetics Representative for prosthetic and orthotic devices;Reconciling all invoices for certification of payment;Gathering and analyzing data to measure compliance with government socioeconomic goals;Maintaining a safe work environment to include non-technical maintenance of equipment, safety check, cleaning, stocking, etc. Participating in job related continuing education programs to maintain high level of competence; andPerforming other related duties as assigned.
