General Schedule Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-7 grade level in the federal service which involved having the ability to read doctor requests to determine the required procedure(s) and the proper equipment needed for the treatment of the patient. This specialized experience must have provided the following knowledge, skills and abilities: Knowledge of the concepts, practices, procedures, techniques, and equipment applied to medical ultrasound and ability to apply them to examinations on a regular basis. Knowledge of human anatomy, structure, and physiology to recognize medically significant findings during ultrasound examinations. Skill in reading sonograms and identifying and explaining medically significant aspects therein. Skill in setting up, adjusting, operating, and maintaining diagnostic ultrasound and ancillary equipment. Education can be substituted for experience. Review the qualification requirements for specific information. OR, Graduate education or an internship will meet the specialized experience required only in those instances where it is directly related to the work of the position. PHYSICAL DEMANDS:The work involves regular and prolonged periods of standing, banding, reaching, and stooping, as well as lifting(in excess of 45 lbs) and moving patients. SCDN08465976D MEDICAL INSRUMENT TECHNICIAN (ULTRASOUND) Additional Duty Location Info:1 vacancy - NC - Fayetteville MAJOR DUTIES: BackToTop(); Incumbent will: Perform, complex ultrasound examinations of human subjects to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of disease or injury; Receive and review requests for ultrasound examinations. Determine the condition(s) and administer the procedures using the equipment necessary to best meet the needs of the individual case; Receive and position patient for examination; Explain procedures and actions to allay fears and secure maximum cooperation; Select, set up, adjust, and operate ultrasound equipment. Conduct examination, adjusting technique and equipment to best present the medically significant aspects found; Monitor patient condition during examination and, if necessary, renders emergency aid and summons assistance. Assist radiologist or physician in reading or evaluating results. Assist in performing invasive procedures such as biopsies, aspirations, nephrostomes, amniocentesis, etc.; Train personnel in ultrasound principles, procedures, capabilities, techniques, and equipment.
