MEDICAL SUPPORT ASSISTANT (OA)
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

General Schedule Knowledge of unit procedures for assembling patient charts, recording physicians' orders, Including medications, integrating X-ray and test reports, and scheduling patient appointments. Knowledge of the internal organization of patients' records and the relationship of their parts in order to file in correct sequential and chronological order and to review records for completeness, accuracy and consistency with facility requirements upon discharge of patients. Knowledge of the various facility services, the medical terminology and procedures common to each service in order to record test results accurately, and to properly arrange patient appointments in order to avoid conflicts in patient care. Skill to type uncomplicated time schedules, memos, etc., using common terms and knowledge of the proper format, under timely circumstances.The experience described in your resume will be evaluated and screened for the Office of Personnel Management's basic qualifications requirements, and the skills needed to perform the duties of this position as described in this vacancy announcement.Education can be substituted for experience. Review the qualification requirements for specific information.Only degrees from an accredited college or university recognized by the Department of Education are acceptable to meet positive education requirements or to substitute education for experience. MAJOR DUTIES:

Upon admission and discharge of patients, assembles records in sequential and chronological order, assures required forms are completed and signed by professional staff, notifies various departments of the action. Records a variety of physicians' orders involving patient activities diets,tests, and medications to various charts, forms, and request slips. Accurately transfers drug names, dosages, and times of administration to form used for dispensing medication. Orients new doctors,nurses and nursing assistants to such things as the location of patient files,format for requesting medical tests and supplies,and the requirements for completing charts upon discharge. Takes specimens to the laboratory and arterial blood gases to the respiratory therapy department and obtains blood and blood products from the blood bank. Orders and stocks office supplies. Arranges appointments. Types such things as weekly time schedules,memos,form letters, work orders,rosters,and a variety of request slips.
