07-650GC Supervisory Histopathology Technician QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-8).Specialized experience is that which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and is typically in or related to the position to be filled. Substitution OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: 2 years of graduation level education or a master?s degree that is directly related to the work of the position to be filled. VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE:Appropriate credit will be given for voluntary participation in community, social service, and similar activities. You must be a U.S. citizen to qualify for this position. 07-650GC Supervisory Histopathology Technician Additional Duty Location Info:1 vacancy - Palo Alto, CA MAJOR DUTIES: BackToTop(); DUTIES: Incumbent is assigned to as supervisor over the Histopathology and Electron Microscopy Laboratories of the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service for the VA Palo Alto Health Care System (VAPAHCS).Incumbent is directly responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Histopathology and Tissue Museum Sections? organization, planning, efficiency, rate of production and quality of work.Within the general policies, incumbent helps decide on methodology, makes assignments, sets up general work schedules and is the primary channel of communication with other sections.Incumbent is directly responsible for all determinations in this section and it is his/her responsibility to prevent any analytical errors that could easily cause irreversible damage and result in loss of histopathologic diagnoses, and minor errors in techniques which may lead to unsuspected loss of cytologic or histochemical detail or cause misleading artifacts.Incumbent conducts training programs to orient newly assigned staff members and to aid them in their continued growth, and to develop familiarity with new and/or more complex techniques.Incumbent assists in the preparation of the Laboratory Service budget in so far as estimating future needs for supplies and equipment.Reviews and spot-checks work performed by subordinates for conformance to specialized requirements.Incumbent helps to select and test new histochemical procedures and supervises performance of them.
