JOB SUMMARY:
There are two positions to be filled.The organization is the
Department of the Interior, Bureau of Land Management, Wyoming State
Office.One position is located in the Rawlins Field Office, Duty
Station-Rawlins, Wyoming and one position is located in the Casper
Field Office, Duty Station-Casper, Wyoming.

To qualify for this position, applicants must have 1 year of
specialized experience in the Federal service at the next lower
grade.Appropriate education may be substituted for specialized
experience as provide in the "Qualifications and Evaluations"
section.
Applicants at all grade levels must have previous wildland
firefighting operations experience.Applicants for the GS-7 level
must meet the NWCG Incident Management Qualifications of Dispatch
Recorder (EDRC).

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Applicants must show they possess specialized experience in wildland
firefighting as described in the Job Specific Questions for this
position.
Applicants at all grade levels must show they have previous wildland
firefighting operations experience. Applicants for GS-7 must meet the
NWCG Incident Management Qualifications of Dispatch Recorder (EDRC).
At GS-4 applicants must show they possess 6 months of general and 6
months of specialized experience. General experience shows the
ability to perform range technician work OR experience that provided
a familiarity with range technician work. Specialized experience is
directly related experience equivalent to GS-3 in the Federal
service; OR have completed 2 years of study above high school that
included 12 semester hours in courses such as forestry, agriculture,
crop or plant science, range management or conservation, wildlife
management watershed management, soil science, natural resources
(except marine fisheries and oceanography), outdoor recreation
management, civil or forest engineering, or wildland fire science; OR
have an equivalent combination of specialized experience and
education as described.
At GS-5 applicants must show they possesshave one year of
specialized experience, equivalent to GS-4 in the Federal service; OR
have completed a bachelor`s degree with major study in forestry,
range management, agriculture, or a field directly-related to this
position; OR that included at least 24 semester hours in courses such
as range management or conservation, agriculture, forestry, wildlife
management, engineering, biology, mathematics, or other natural or
physical sciences; OR have an equivalent combination of specialized
experience and education as described.
At GS-6 applicants must show they possess 1 year of specialized
experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 level in the federal
service as a range technician or in a directly related position OR
have completed six months of graduate level college education in a
field directly related to range technician work such as a major study
in forestry, range management, agriculture or a subject-matter field
directly related to this position which has equipped the applicant
with the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to successfully
perform the duties of this position.
At GS-7 applicants must show they possess 1 year of specialized
experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 level in the federal
service as a range technician or in a directly related position OR
have completed 1 year of graduate level college education in a field
directly related to range technician work such as a major study in
forestry, range management, agriculture or a subject-matter field
directly related to this position which has equipped the applicant
with the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to successfully
perform the duties of this position. Applicants for the GS-7 level
must meet the NWCG Incident Management Qualifications of Dispatch
Recorder (EDRC).
Specialized experience is experience in dispatching personnel and
resources to meet emergency needs as well as anticipating and
responding to specific orders for personnel, equipment and supplies.

Range Technician, Initial Attack Fire /Aviation Dispatcher

MAJOR DUTIES:

You will serve as a central zoned coordination point with
responsibility to assemble or obtain suppression sources including
helicopters, retardant aircraft, firefighters, and fire overhead
personnel. Uses firefighting experience and training background to
anticipate fire personnel, equipment and supply needs for fire
lines/fire camps. Monitors all fire radio communications for the zone
and maintains a log on all telephone calls and conversations that
transpire regarding fire activities. Provides input to be used in
fire plans and recommends changes as appropriate. Monitors computer
for fire weather data and notices regarding agency participating in
fire operations. Interprets data relating it to actual field
conditions and gives this information to management for making
decisions. Obtains daily weather observations from field stations
and relays information to the State Office. During periods of fire
activity, prepares a daily fire situation report toinform the
State Office of changing events.

SECONDARY POSITIONS
This is a secondary firefighter/law enforcement officer position
under the special retirement provisions of 5 U.S.C. 8336(c) (CSRS)
and 5 U.S.C. 8412(d) (FERS).It requires prior primary wildland
firefighter/law enforcement officer experience.Coverage under
special retirement provisions depends upon incumbent's individual
work history.

This is a Testing Designated position under the DOI Drug Free
Workplace Program.As a condition of employment, in accordance with
Executive Order 12564, applicants selected for this position are
required to submit to a drug test and receive a negative drug test
result prior to appointment.
This is a permanent, seasonal position. The employee will work 6 to
9 months in a calendar year, depending on workload and funding.
