QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:Applicants must (1) be a United States citizen, (2) have no limitations regarding shift or overtime work, and (3) meet the requirements of the position to be filled.This requires the applicant to have sufficient experience in work that prepared the applicant for the above duties over a period long enough to have demonstrated performance that can be evaluated.
­­­DRUG POLICY STATEMENT: The Bureau of Engraving & Printing drug screens all candidates prior to appointment.Accordingly, prior to appointment into this position the selectee must submit to and successfully pass a urinalysis drug screening.
You will need to successfully complete a background security investigation before you can be appointed into this position.
Applicants for this position must pass a pre-employment medical examination.

MAJOR DUTIES:

The incumbent works independently or with Journeyman Electricians to install, repair, or maintain the basic electrical transmission system or equipment that falls under the responsibility of the Electric Shop, also performs limited assignments in the installation or repair of complex industrial electrical systems.Completes needed repairs to installed systems by removing, replacing, tightening, splicing, and insulating defective wiring, controls, equipment, and fixtures such as broken and bare wiring, burned out switches and relays, loose connections and fittings, damaged light fixtures, and poorly operating basic controls.Troubleshoots and locates broken, worn, damaged, or poorly operating wiring, fixtures, controls, and equipment through visual check or through use of a small variety of test equipment; for example, test lamps, voltage testers, ammeters, and polarity testers.Uses work orders, oral instructions, and wiring diagrams or blueprints that indicate the nature of the installation to be made; properly locates and installs or relocates circuits, fixtures, and controls and select types of wiring, parts, and equipment to be installed.Examples include such items as receptacles, switches, light fixtures and circuit breakers from job layouts, work orders, and material requirements.Dispose of excess lamps, ballasts and other electrical material within Bureau guidelines.Gather and transport equipment, tools and materials to and from the work site.Procure material requested to complete assigned tasks through store room requisitions, and/or submitting order requests.Operate industrial material handling equipment such as fork trucks and pallet jacks and motorized personnel lifts.

All selected candidates will be required to complete the Bureau of Engraving and Printing's certified training requirement for operation of industrial handling equipment.Continued employment with the Bureau is contingent upon successful completion of that certified training program.
TERM APPOINTMENTS:The Bureau of Engraving and Printing has the option of extending a Term Appointment in one-year increments up to the 4-year time limit.The employment of a term employee automatically ends on the expiration of the appointment unless he or she has been separated earlier. A register will be established for one year beginning with the initial cut-off date.All future Electrical Worker vacancies may be filled from this register without further competition. First consideration will be given to the applications or resumes received by the initial cut-off date of 04/17/2009.Subsequent cut-off dates are as follows; 06/17/2009, 08/18/2009, 10/19/2009, 12/18/2009, and the final cut-off/closing date will be 3/17/2010.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS: The duties of this position require the ability to climb and work from ladders or atop machinery; to work standing, kneeling, or lying on back.Incumbent is required to lift up to 75 pounds.Work may be performed under conditions that are hot, cramped or in drafty areas, and occasionally outside during inclement weather.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: For employees newly hired in BEP, enrollment in a direct deposit/electronic funds transfer is required as a condition of employment. Selectee will be subject to a suitability determination/security investigation. Selectee must submit to urinalysis for use of illegal drugs prior to the appointment.Internal applicants tentatively selected for a testing designated position will also be required to be tested.Male applicants between the ages of 18 and 25 are eligible for appointment only after registering for the Selective Service System.
CAREER AND INTERAGENCY CAREER TRANSITION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (CTAP/ICTAP) First consideration will be given to CTAP/ICTAP eligibles in the commuting area. In addition to meeting minimum qualification requirements, CTAP/ICTAP eligibles must be determined to be well-qualified. In order to be well-qualified, applicants must meet at least the mid-level of the crediting plan for all factors. CTAP/ICTAP applicants who are applying for selection priority to a position with promotion potential, must provide evidence that the position from which you have received a separation notice from or from which you were separated has the same promotion potential as the position for which you are applying, or higher.
