Lead Military Pay Technician
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Candidates must have served three (3) months after initial competitive appointment and meet the following time in grade restrictions: Applicant must have served 52 weeks as a GS-06 or higher grade in the Federal Service.
52 weeks of specialized experience as a GS-06 in the Federal service, or comparable in level of difficulty and responsibility to GS-06 if outside the Federal service, is required. Specialized experience is typically work in or related to the duties of the position being filled. Examples of specialized experience include: Reviewing, processing and determining a wide variety of complex military pay entitlements (i.e. allowances, special pays, etc).Researching account data, military pay laws, rules and regulations to correct errors, answer customer inquiries or to address Congressionals.
SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: One full year of graduate level education may be substituted to meet the specialized experience required when it is directly related to the work of the position being filled. Such education must have been obtained from an accredited college or university.
Official transcripts must be provided if using education to substitute for specialized experience.
If you are using education to substitute for the specialized experience requirement, you must submit transcripts at the time you apply.You must report only attendance and/or degrees from schools accredited by accrediting institutions that are recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

MAJOR DUTIES:

Serves as a work leader in the processing of military pay transactions. Incumbent monitors and directs work activities which involves the examination of military pay documents to determine the accuracy and propriety of payments or the need for collection action to ensure proper payment to military members. Incumbent also performs work concurrent to that performed by the group such as:Analyzing daily and month-end restructure management notices of the most complex garbled or out-of-balance master military pay accounts (MMPAs); providing guidance to operating personnel and other associates in the directorate in the preparation of DFAS-IN unique transactions; examining and adjudicating casualty cases involving doubtful claims and arrears of pay.
