Supervisory Clinical Psychologist
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS - BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
Citizenship:Citizen of the United States.
Education:(a) Doctoral degree in Psychology from an accredited college or university whose curriculum psychology is approved by the American Psychological Association (APA); and
(b) Completed a professional psychology internship training program that has been accredited by the APA.
Licensure:A full, current, and unrestricted license to practice psychology at the doctoral level in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States, or the District of Columbia.Exception: The Secretary may waive the requirement of licensure or certification for an individual psychologist for a period not to exceed 2 years from the date of employment on the condition that such a psychologist provides care only under the direct supervision of a psychologist who is so licensed.Failure to obtain licensure during the 2-year period may result in termination of employment.
Physical Standards:Must pass physical examination and TB test before entering on duty.
English Language Proficiency:Psychologist must be proficient in spoken and written English.
Experience:2 years of postdoctoral experience with at least 1 of the 2 years of experience comparable in difficulty to the next lower grade (GS-12) in the Federal service, and appropriate to the specialty area of the position being filled.

VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE: Appropriate credit will be given for voluntary participation in community, social service, and similar activities.

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE:No substitution of education allowed at this grade level.

DUTIES: Incumbent is employed as a Supervisory Clinical Psychologist and will function as the Team Leader on a multidisciplinary team that is located in a community-based Vet Center that provides veterans with community outreach, counseling, therapy, treatment and direct services and referrals to VA and community resources; and provides community education regarding the problems and needs of veterans.Incumbent of this position will be assigned to the Peninsula Vet Center located in Redwood City, CA.The incumbent will provide at least 45% direct service time as a Clinical Psychologist.He/she will provide direct service to the Vet Center clients and their families.The Team Leader will establish and maintain therapeutic relationships and exercise professional judgment in the treatment of all Vet Center clients and their families.He/she will be able to function with a minimum of clinical oversight and is expected to make autonomous decisions regarding clinical issues.Incumbent will be responsible for providing all psychological services to clients and family members of clients exhibiting complex clinical problems.The Team Leader has full professional responsibility for the psychological treatment of complex clinical cases.The incumbent is also responsible for the assessment and treatment of complex cases, to include veteran?s families and PTSD as it relates to family issues.He/she is expected to consult with fellow team members and other mental health professionals on a regular basis regarding individual mental health cases.The incumbent exercises a high degree of professional judgment and independence in carrying out the team mission within established program guidelines, goals and objectives and is also directly responsible for the supervision of staff members and all patient care activities at the Vet Center.
