This position is assigned to Mental Health Care Line, Tennessee Valley Healthcare System, York Campus, Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
Serves as the Mental Health Care Line (MHCL) Director for the Tennessee Valley Healthcare System (TVHS) and has final decision-making authority, responsibility and accountability on all issues affecting the MHCL.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Citizenship:Citizen of the United States.(Non-citizens may be appointed when no qualified citizens are available in accordance with regulations issued by the Under Secretary for Health or designee).
Education:Master's Degree in Social Work (no other degree may be substituted) accredited by the Council on Social Work Education
Must have at least 1 year of professional social work experience equivalent to the next lower grade level.
Licensure:Licensed or certified at the Master's level to independently practice social work in a state.
Physical Standards/Requirements:See VA Handbook 5005, Part III, Chapter 2, paragraph 7, and VA Handbook 5019, Occupational Health Services. All applicants must be physically and mentally able to perform efficiently the duties of the position.
English Language Proficiency.Applicant must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), and 7407 (d).[No person will be appointed under authority of 38 U.S.C. Chapter 73 or 74, to serve in a direct patient-care capacity who is not proficient in written and spoken English].
Master's Degree in Social Work (no other degree may be substituted) accredited by the Council on Social Work Education; and be licensed or certified at the Master's level to independently practice social work in a state.
You must be a U.S. citizen to qualify for this position.
After appointment, you will be subject to random testing for illegal drug use.
You must have alicense or certification for this position.
You will need to successfully complete a background security investigation before you can be appointed into this position.

MAJOR DUTIES:

The incumbent has final decision-making authority, responsibility and accountability on all issues affecting the MHCL.He/She collaborates with operations and program/section managers to ensure integrated goals and priorities for the MHCL are established and met.He/She also works closely with peers in other service lines, services, and management to meet the needs of the medical center?s recognized customer groups.He/she is responsible to ensure all residency training programs mandates are met in coordination with program coordinators, internally and externally.The incumbent is knowledgeable of overall VA, VISN, and medical center goals, missions, and priorities to assure a positive impact on programs and resources.
The incumbent is ultimately responsible for overall MHCL operations currently administratively structured around a program management model and with a clinical emphasis on the Recovery Model.This responsibility includes System operations including inpatient and outpatient care, mental health services in community-based clinics, psychology services, patient/customer satisfaction, and successful attainment of TVHS, VISN and VHA performance measures, service delivery efficiency and effective resource management.
